DASH OF COLOR.

With a keen understanding of our clients’ specific needs, we set out to design a mudroom which could be a sigh of relief upon coming home, rather than the cramped, dimly-lit, and cluttered welcome that is unfortunately common to mud rooms.

From a dedicated trash can discreetly tucked away to prevent junk mail from piling up, to spacious cabinets that open to the floor for bulky items (think car seats, kids sports bags, etc), every detail caters to ease of use. We always like to be thoughtful about how to make a space work for a client’s unique daily rhythms and these were a couple of specific pain points that were mentioned.

Next, we strategically installed a window to flood the space with natural light. This isn’t always an option but when it is we like to seize it since it has such a huge impact in opening up a space.

And finally, when the room eventually becomes a drop zone for everyone’s items, it will begin to visually fill up, so we kept the palette fairly neutral to avoid that busy, overwhelming feeling. Just a dash of color in the tile and accessories brings some cohesion and fun to the design. Our favorite detail in particular is the painted cabinet knobs which are each a different color from the palette of oranges, yellows, and periwinkle blue—which also cleverly corresponds to the buttons of the pillows.
